Watch: Joburg motorist bravely rescues bag for smash-and-grab victim

While stealing a bag through the window of a car, a thief got the fright of his life when motorcyclist Anton Damhuis, who was just adjacent to the car, took action and drove straight into him in an attempt to stop him.

News24 reports that the incident took place on Monday, 10 September in Alexandra, Johannesburg. 

The robber clearly didn’t think things through clearly and carefully. Firstly, he tried to rob the driver in the middle of the road with other vehicles alongside him, and, secondly, he was wearing a reflective jacket – a product literally designed to draw attention to you - and it most certainly did that.

While on his way home from work, Anton spotted the robber at an intersection trying to pull the motorist's laptop bag through the car window while its driver tried to desperately hold on to it. Anton then proceeded to ram his bike into the horrified thief and pinned him up against the car to stop him.

Seconds later, the thief falls to the ground, jumps up, and runs away. The shocked thief not only got the fright of his life, but it’s also a case of instant Karma. However, Anton was hot on the chase to get the bag. Eventually, the thief dropped the laptop bag in the middle of the road, and Anton, the good Samaritan, handed the bag back to its rightful owner, who clearly looked shocked at what had happened.

Well done, Anton, for stopping a criminal in his tracks. South Africa needs more citizens like you to put an end to crime.
