Zimbabwean locals gather to watch snake inside van engine
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
A video that's been getting much attention on social media shows a crowd gathered around a bakkie in Bulawayo, watching as a snake is pulled from under the bonnet.

We thought snakes in KZN were bad. But it turns out we’re not the only ones dealing with them.
In March 2025, a video gained a lot of traction showing a snake drawing a crowd in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The snake had slithered under the bonnet of a bakkie.
The bakkie was parked outside a KFC in the city centre. People gathered around, watching in shock and amazement. They waited for a man – likely a snake catcher – to safely remove it.
We were surprised to see a crowd gathering around the vehicle. Usually, people run the other way when there’s a snake involved.
But not this time. Almost everyone had their phones out, ready to capture the moment. Maybe they thought this was their chance to go viral.
It’s wild what people will do for likes and shares these days.
As Africans, we do love a bit of drama. While some say it’s just in our nature, this video definitely proves it.
