There's nothing quite like comparing the love of the game to our homebody football fans.Β
As the world stops and focuses on the FIFA World Cup proceedings in Qatar, our African football fans have their heads in the game.Β
Not the overseas games though, local league takes precedence...
In a video that was shared to Twitter on Sunday evening, we see fans invade the grounds in pursuit of the referee.Β
"Mbongeni Shongwe nearly became a victim of mob justice after Mbabane Highlanders fans invaded the pitch βto deal withβ him for poor officiating at Mavuso Sports Centre, in Manzini, eSwatini, on Sunday." (MSN)
And here you thought we were only serious about our food...
The Highlanders fans found Shongwe's decision to award the opposing team, Seabirds, the winning goal was incorrect.Β
"The fans were unhappy after a Manzini Seabirds player seemed to have used his hand to score the winner. Seabirds won the tie 2-1,βΒ FarPostΒ reported." (MSN)
But as seen in the video above, Shongwe was a good runner and managed to seek refuge alongside a police vehicle.Β
Moral of the story, don't mess with a local football fan...
