In the times we live in, we have to take every opportunity to soak up the motivation, the inspiration, the powerful words of everyone willing to make a change in this scene of social ambiguity.

Tyler Perry left us with chills at the Oscars on Sunday night in his acceptance speech, when he said: "My mother taught me to refuse hate, she taught me to refuse blanket judgement.".

After his Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award win, he shared some much-needed words with the world when he said that "in this time, with all of the internet, and social media and algorithms and everything that wants us to think a certain way, the 24-hour news cycle, it is my hope that all of us would just teach our kids, and not only to remember, to refuse hate. Don't hate anybody..."

His hope for all of us is to refuse hate. He even went on to dedicate the award to everyone who is willing to stand in the middle with him, "as that's where healing happens, that's where conversation happens, that's where change happens".

We can all listen and learn from his inspiring words and stand in the middle. Let's choose to #RefuseHate.
