Swapped at birth: A true story of two women who find out 38 years later!

Two mothers from the same village in Russia were always left baffled when it came to the lack of physical similarities their daughters shared with them, only to find out that their daughters were switched at birth 38 years ago.

What in the world? That's our response to this mind-blowing story. It feels like something out of a movie or TV series, but no, it's real!

Mothers Vasilya Baimurzina and Valentina Baulina were always confused by comments from their village that their girls were not theirs, and like any mother, they would not fall into the rumours.

The daughters, Gulsina Baimurzina and Alyona Baulina, held close similarities to each other's mums and as much as the rumours crossed the villages, they chose not to give in to the word on the street.

According to Metro, "the families decided to get a DNA test and it came out that both women were born at Kizil Hospital, in Kizilskoye, in 1983."

The results were shocking. "Somehow, the babies’ name tags both came off and were reattached to the incorrect newborn."

The families are in complete disarray after finding out and "are calling for a payout of 10 million rubles (£96,589) from the Russian Ministry of Finance." This equates to roughly R2-million.

The hospital has offered a formal apology to the families and the families have managed to stay close to one another. A real-life happy ending! We love it!

According to the article, the chances of babies being switched at birth is quite a rare occasion (outside of your favourite soapie drama), with only 17 cases known throughout history.
