Students spend 2 hours a day learning with AI teachers

What is your take on having your child learn from AI teachers?

Where we've seen many schools shy away or ban the use of artificial intelligence, this school is embracing it.
The Alpha School in Texas, USA, uses AI to boost human intelligence and "transform teaching." According to its website, the Alpha School "replaces traditional classroom instruction with AI tutors and adaptive learning platforms. Students spend their mornings engaging in a highly personalised curriculum in the core subjects: math, reading, science, and social science."
Interestingly, the AI system can assess each student's knowledge in 'real-time'. Based on their assessment, the AI can identify gaps and ensure the student achieves complete understanding before moving on to the next lesson or skill.
Could this be precisely what the world of teaching requires? We need to adopt new learning methods that help assess students' knowledge and identify and address the gaps stunting their growth.
This is the mindset of Kelly Davis, an education strategist with more than 16 years of experience, passionate about "reimagining how students learn."
Forbes describes this approach to education as radically different from traditional education. This approach allows students to complete a day's work in two hours, giving them time to focus on other skills.
"This approach is designed to solve two persistent challenges in education: the inefficiency of one-size-fits-all instruction and the isolation of individualised learning. By allowing students to work individually at their own pace but within a shared environment, Alpha School preserves the social benefits of schooling while eliminating many of its traditional inefficiencies", says Forbes.
What is the role of the classroom teacher, then? Well, the classroom teachers are considered 'guides'. Their role is to help students stay on track and engaged.
The remainder of the day can be dedicated to anything from life skills, debating, coding projects, and so much more. Forbes adds: "These activities ensure that learning is not solely about acquiring knowledge, actively or passively, but about exploring it and putting it to use while building confidence, enhancing communication skills, and honing problem-solving abilities."
We would have to agree. It's worth a try and poses an efficient and practical approach to teaching kids the skills they require in the real world.
