South African cinematography has always had its roots deeply rooted in stories that leave viewers with a jolt of drama, excitement, and emotion.
And most recently, Multichoice Studios and Bomb Productions have come together to tell the story of King Shaka.
'Shaka iLembe' is said to be a "fictional interpretation of historical events" surrounding the story that shaped King Shaka's life, his rise to the throne, and the innate power he was born with and from.
Queen Nandi, a queen of our hearts, is portrayed so eloquently by our KZN princess, Nomzamo Mbatha. She revealed that this is a role she had always wanted to play.
As a young girl, she had always loved what Queen Nandi stood for, and her strength and fighting spirit resonated with her.

Nomzamo Mbatha, a woman of our hearts, gives a transformative performance in the drama series as the King's mother, Queen Nandi, as well as the show's executive producer.
Mbatha, accompanied by Bomb Productions and fellow producers, have taken great care in ensuring that the Nguni culture is portrayed in the most respected and authentic manner.
Even more than that, this story is about a hero's journey, a love story that was sadly doomed by culture and tradition, but still reigned as true, and most of all their rendition of this African legend is indeed a masterpiece.
She came in to the studio today to chat with Carol Ofori about this electrifying series, set for release on 18 June 2023 on Mzansi Magic.
