Called #MindfulMondays, the new campaign is hosted on her Instagram platform in conjunction with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG). Mental health is an important topic for Shudu, who announced that she would be focusing on raising awareness around the topic when she won the crown last year.

The initiative will see Shudu speak to various experts on a diverse range of topics related to the subject on her Instagram every Monday evening at 7 pm.

Chatting to Carol, Shudu explains that “mental health is such a huge problem. Not just in South Africa, but globally. It’s one of the most overlooked issues in the world.” She adds that “people always focus on physical health but forget about their mental health and that one can’t exist without the other.”

Shockingly, Shudu tells Carol that “one in three people are expected to suffer from some form of mental health in their lifetime and it’s the second leading cause for death amongst young people aged 15 to 29, so the stats are quite alarming.”
