Netflix’s hit series ‘Bridgerton’ fast became one of the most successful series of the year so far. Fans tuned in by the millions to follow the aristocratic Bridgerton family, whose eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton prepares for the social season where women and men from around the city court in hopes of marriage. The series received rave reviews and gained some high-profile fans like Kim Kardashian – who was thrilled to find out that she and her family were used as inspiration for Bridgerton’s extravagant neighbours – the Featheringtons.

While the show premiered on Christmas Day last year, Kim jumped onto the bandwagon a little late – but fast became as obsessed as the world was with the eclectic series. After sharing some tweets praising the series, Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, the youngest Featherington daughter, shared that Kim and the Kardashian family were used as inspiration when conceptualising the family for the show.

“As the world’s number one @bridgerton Stan does @KimKardashian know that the Kardashians were a massive inspiration for the Featheringtons and we talked about them all the time during our fittings? Because I feel like she should know this,” Nicola tweeted the reality star.

Kim, who recently asked if it was too soon to rewatch the first season, was “freaking out” that she and her family made some sort of impact on the characters on the show and asked if she could come to a fitting when filming on season two begins later this year.

The actress responded that she and the crew would love to have her come to the set and shared another interesting nugget about Kim’s influence on the show – this time with regards to its fashion.

“Omg yesss of course we would love to have you! Also did you know that Mr Pearl made your corset for the Met Gala and the very next one he made was mine for Bridgerton? You’ve been part of the Bridgerton world for longer than you know!” Nicola responds.

The show made headlines recently when Netflix renewed it for seasons three and four ahead of season two’s debut.

“Bridgerton swept us off our feet,” said Bela Bajaria, vice president of global television at Netflix. “The creative team, led by Shonda [Rhimes], knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”

The series did hit a bump in the road, however, as fan-favourite Regé-Jean Page confirmed that he would not be returning as the Duke of Hastings for future seasons. However, Phoebe Dynevor will be back where Daphne will help her brother “navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer — more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear,” according to an announcement by Lady Whistledown herself.
