A TikTok trend that has resurfaced after some time has caught the attention of people online.

The trend, which was called the 'Sleepy Chicken', has come into the spotlight because The United States Food and Drug Administration - also known as the FDA - has released a formal notification about it.

Sleepy Chicken is basically chicken that is cooked with Vicks NyQuil Syrup (which is a cold and flu syrup).

You can understand why they call it 'sleepy chicken', since cold and flu syrup is said to make you sleepy to treat the symptoms.

Now the reason the trend and videos have resurfaced is because the FDA has made a formal warning telling people not to add NyQuil to their chicken.

Can we just say how crazy this sounds...

It seems that people were using this as a substitute for oil.

We understand that the price of oil has been horrendous, but this just sounds absurd.

According to the FDA, inhaling the vapours from a hot pan can be dangerous. The authority said: "Boiling a medication can make it much more concentrated and change its properties in other ways." (LadBible)

Many of the videos that were posted to TikTok have been removed due to the danger associated with the trend.

This is just one crazy challenge that has made its way into people's homes and lives. The scariest part is that it could be followed by our kids and we don't want that escalating.

"TikTok encourages people to stop, think, decide and act when it comes to online challenges or trends. If you see something worrying or distressing, such as a potentially harmful challenge or hoax, stop and take a moment to think about what you've seen," TikTok says. (LadBible)

As much as we have not noticed any signs of this trend in South Africa, it is still necessary to be weary of it.
