A handwashing song to remind guests to wash their hands
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
A video showing workers on a cruise ship singing a song to remind people to wash their hands gets us wondering if this is what it takes to practice good hygiene.

A South African Journal of Child Health report states: "According to the 2009 Global Hygiene Survey, 60% of South Africans do not wash their hands properly after using the toilet, sneezing or handling pets and food."
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, many people were unaware of the proper way of washing their hands. But since then, it is irresponsible and negligent to say that you don't practice good hygiene.
"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a five-step procedure for washing hands: wetting hands with clean running water and applying soap; rubbing the hands together, including the back of the hands, the web spaces and under the fingernails; scrubbing for 20 seconds; rinsing with running water; and drying with a clean towel," reports Scielo.

One might argue that kids are still learning, so it's up to us to teach them about hygiene, but we have seen an increasing number of adults failing to practice good hygiene.
A video shared on social media shows cruise ship workers at Royal Caribbean standing near the wash basins encourage people to wash their hands.

It seems their job is to remind people to wash their hands before and after a meal.
One person wrote, "This might be annoying to some but I see way toooo many adults not washing hands these days."
"We need these in public restrooms and I volunteer as tribute."
"Wait is this someone’s JOB???? Because I need to change careers asap."
"As a female who washes her hands, I can’t tell you how often I see other women just walk out the public restroom stall, check themselves in the mirror, and walk right out!!"
