South African snacks are like nothing else in the world...

Well, that's as far as we know!

The truth is that with every snack that emerges from our bountiful country, something similar is made elsewhere.

In this case it is the question of the Bhajia, also referred to as Chilli Bites in KZN.

A person shared an image on Reddit saying how they found a box of Packo's Chilli Bite Mix at their South African supermarket.

We could not trace where the person was from but the image of the box revealed that the Packo Chilli Bite Mix cost $4.99 (R93.05).

The thing is that they followed the instructions and the results differed quite considerably from the image on the box. Usually when South Africans make this savoury snack, they look like crispy fritters or mini savoury donuts.

Chilli Bites are popularly called 'Bhajia' to many people in KZN, but it doesn't mean that it's the only name. This spicy and crunchy snack created a talking point among Redditors.

By every name, Bhajia, Platkoekies or Platdaltjies, it was still something that got people talking.

The conversation veered from the preparation to the kitchen utensils used to prepare it. The poster got into a conversation with another Redditor and things were heating up.
