Simon Cowell, the English television personality and businessman, became world-renowned for his controversial and blunt commentary on shows such as Pop Idol, The X Factor UK, American Idol, and Britain's Got Talent, to name a few.

Undoubtedly, he was overly candid, but that was far from the reason Michelle Hall was so fearful of him. When the media first outed Hall's fear turned phobia for Simon Cowell, it was evident that there was something deeper at play here.
She appeared on the 'This Morning' show 2014, discussing the root cause of her Simon Cowell phobia. She spoke with therapists Eva and Nik Speakman. After chatting with her, the therapists made an interesting discovery.
"TV therapists found Michelle had associated the trauma of her father’s death 10 years ago with Cowell when she began watching The X Factor around the same time," reports The Mirror.
She often spoke about how Cowell looked on screen, this look triggered memories of her father, who would give her the same look when telling her off as a child. When she saw Cowell on The X Factor, she was triggered by the memory of her father.
