As the people of KZN fearfully approach the flooding from the heavy rainfall, we wanted to keep you in the loop about the updated emergency number for the district of eThekwini.

Earlier today, the eThekwini Municipality announced on its social media pages that its emergency number was offline and provided a temporary number for members of the public.

The temporary numbers to contact in an emergency are 031 322 2966 and 031 322 2967.

Residents are urged to use the temporary number to report any emergencies until further notice is provided on the eThekwini Municipality's online platforms.

As the heavy rainfall continues in KZN, residents are urged to exercise extreme caution and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

The South African Weather Service has issued warnings about intense downpours, leading to widespread flooding in several areas.

Have a look at some safety tips from an expert, Trevor Manas from Blitz Detect, to follow during a lightning storm. In case you were wondering –  it isn't safe to shower or bathe during a thunderstorm.

Please take weather warnings seriously and use discretion when deciding whether to send children to school or proceed with travel plans tomorrow.
