We found these great tips on how to make married life better, as put forth by a couple who are married and wanted to share it.

1. One person in the relationship is in charge of weekends

So often we tend to focus on laid back weekends and before you know it, you feel like a whole year has passed you by. By allocating one person taking charge with planning each weekend, you can get to do fun things with each other and continue growing as a couple.

2. No phone zone

Each night, you both need to set time aside from all devices and connect with one-on-one time. We don't realise how addictive and damaging it can be to continuously be on our phones.

Not just for our mental states of mind, but also for our relationship. Each moment spent on your phone is a moment we are not present.

3. Disconnected days

Actual days without any smart device or tech. Go outdoors and connect with nature. You would be surprised the impact the outdoors has on a person's overall being.

When you work on yourself, your relationship benefits too...

4. Have a list of important things

So if she doesn't like the toilet seat up (we are certain she doesn't), then make an effort to make sure you don't leave it up. If he doesn't like the car to be left dirty, then make an effort to clean it up...

You have to figure out what's important to your partner and make an effort to let them know it's important to you too...

5. Go for couple's counselling or therapy

Everyone has a perception that you only go to the therapist if your relationship is in trouble.

But the truth is that therapy isn't only there to repair or restore, but it can be a great source of learning to build on your relationship in a healthy way.
