Durban woman gets her shopping for free at Checkers Gateway

We've been watching people share their hardships online and how stretching their money to make ends meet has left them feeling defeated.
A mother trying to stretch R120 to provide a meal for her daughter and herself is a classic example of many South African households. While she managed to buy some items, many people go to bed hungry.
This is why it was exciting to see South African retailer Checkers bring joy to customers who use their Checkers Xtra Savings card when shopping.
Queen Mqilingwa, a call centre agent and digital content creator from KwaMashu, Durban, shared a video about how she struck it lucky at Checkers Gateway on 25 July.
Mqilingwa says she saw that a popular men's lotion was going on sale. One was R79.00, but if you bought two and used your Checkers Xtra savings card, you would only pay R99.00.
That's a steal of a deal, so naturally, Mqilingwa took two. She also bought several other things, including mouthwash, margarine, and chocolate.
When she arrived at the cashier and all her items were scanned, her total came to R344.49. After she swiped her Xtra savings card, it felt like she had hit the jackpot because the cashier informed her that she didn't have to pay anything.

What Mqilingwa didn't know was that by purchasing the lotion, she would not only save but also win.
As part of a competition with the lotion, when she swiped her card, Mqilingwa was one of the lucky winners who got her shopping for free.
"When I swiped the card and saw my balance going to R0.00, I was shocked and excited and grateful at the same time," she said after her surprise win.
