A video that has been shared on social media has got us thinking about the side of the law that looks at reform differently. Usually, when you are caught doing something illegal, what follows is jail time. But that's not always the case for petty criminals like pharas.

According to Africtionary, pharas is "a term that refers to a drug addict who often terrorises the community through criminal activities."

Some might argue that they have been dealt a tough hand and don't know how to live life on the straight and narrow and are simply trying to survive.

Whatever the reason for their actions, a video shared by nka050 on TikTok showed two police officers monitoring a busy intersection somewhere in Durban.

Locals were amused to see how they used physical endurance to punish two men.

In the video, the suspected 'pharas' are seen doing laps and push-ups. While the police officers aren't seen fully engaging with the two, it seems evident that they are following their instructions.

Anyone who struggles to do push-ups and run laps would argue that being locked up might be an easier punishment.

We are uncertain what they were doing to have found this fate, but Mzansi found it entertaining. Some people questioned why the police were making them stronger, and others were empathetic to the men who had to show off their physical endurance.

Sometimes, we must trust and believe that this reprimand is the lesser of two evils.
