The best part of this list is that Carol has found her kids' favourite places...

In her two years living in KwaZulu-Natal, Carol Ofori has had to learn the ropes through trial and error.

As much as many people have advised her as best they can, sometimes exploring things on your own makes it that much more worth it.

Carol Ofori shared her favourite kid-friendly spots with us that she has discovered in her new home town.

She says that her one stop dining place for the kids is Spur. The great thing about Spur for her and the kids is the play area and the fact that no matter which branch she goes to, they get the same facilities.

Another place on their favourites list is Circus Circus, located on the beachfront in North beach. They enjoy this spot because they not only can grab a bite, but the kids can ride their bikes and they can all enjoy the ocean view.

Carol describes Ballito as a haven for kids. They enjoy a place called La Piazza, which is the equivalent of Papachinos in Joburg.

The kids get to play and there is always a full itinerary on weekends for kids. Some weekends they have clowns on stilts and several activities.

Sugar rush is also a great option for the kids.

Another favourite for them is uShaka Marine World. One of the things she would like to enjoy with the family are the gondola rides, also located near uShaka Marine World.

She has also taken the kids to Flag Farm, which is always a hit. She has also found that the Umhlanga Children's Park is always a good, free option for the kids to play.

Plus their toilets are always clean and that's a big positive for families.

Her son enjoys climbing so they find themselves making trips to be.Up, located in Gateway.

And last but not least, the Durban Carnival is in town and is situated Durban Beachfront, in particular the old pavilion site, opposite the Pavilion Hotel. The entry fee is R10 pp from Mon-Thurs and R20 pp from Fri-Sun and on public holidays.

The Carnival is running till the 15th of January so there's still time to take the kids through.
