Like most things in South Africa, we celebrate our wins like no one else. This time, a win highlights our strength and agility as a nation.

It's also proof that we, as a country, are a force to be reckoned with. Former Cheetahs rugby player Rayno Nel won the World's Strongest Man title last weekend.

Nel made history by winning the title as the first African to do so on his debut appearance at the 2025 World's Strongest Man competition in Sacramento, California.

A post on Instagram described his win perfectly, "After four days of brutal tests, unrelenting grit, and a margin thinner than a chalk line, 0.5 points to be precise. Rayno Nel claimed the title of World's Strongest Man 2025!"

Carol got to chat with Nel. He may be the strongest man in the world, but he sounded humble and sweet.

Nel attributed much of his title to working on his training and gave credit to his wife. He spoke about her role in supporting him and the time they dedicate to training.

Social media users were impressed with his historic win. They shared their high praise for Nel and commended the defending champion, Tom Stoltman, for his camaraderie.

One person said, "South Africa coming for all the sports! Let's GOOOO Ryno the RHINO!"

Another wrote, "Congrats to all the guys, but this has to be the biggest Cinderella story to date. Dude has not competed in any of the big 4 competitions until this one and beat two of the top strongmen in history. Absolutely incredible work from @raynonel_strongman Congratulations!"
