In honour of Youth Month, Carol Ofori is dedicating her Women Crush Wednesdays to youth who are making their mark in South Africa.

This week, Carol and the team speak to a mighty powerhouse: nine-year-old Emily Eloff. This young girl is ranked top of her age group as a BMX rider in South Africa. She has been passionate about BMX riding since age five and has excelled in the sport since she started.

Her sheer dedication and passion for the sport have allowed her to compete at the UCI BMX World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 29 July to 3 August. However, despite her tireless efforts to reach the number one spot, she might not be able to attend due to a lack of funding.

Emily's parents, Janine and Cliff Eloff, have been working hard to raise the funds to realise her dream.

Emily needs R80,000 to represent South Africa and compete on the global stage.

"The prestigious international event brings together over 350 competitors from 35 nations, ranging from amateurs as young as eight to elite professional riders," reports the Witness.

The Eloffs have set up a BackaBuddy campaign called “Help Emily get to the BMX World Championships!"

With just a month left to reach their goal of R80,000, the family and young Emily hope that more people will help her fund her travels to represent South Africa. So far, they managed to raise R13,100, which means they need R66,900.

Our youth are doing incredible things in KZN and South Africa, teaching us what it means to own your legacy. This young girl's journey teaches perseverance and fighting to achieve your dream no matter what.

If you want to support Emily in fulfilling her dream and help represent both KZN and South Africa, you can donate here on the BackaBuddy website
