Many fathers look at their little girl's big day as a time that they either dread or celebrate. We are not sure which one it was for Larry Whitfield, the chief cider maker at Loxtonia, a family-owned cidery in the Ceres Valley, the home of the SA Apple industry.

But he sure took full advantage to create an opportunity during the lockdown, when he decided to create a cider that would embody his daughter as she took the next step in life and celebrated her union with her future husband.

Larry decided to create a special brew for his daughter, Alexandra. The cider is called Alexandra Blush Methode Traditionelle, it’s described as having “the finest of bubbles” and being “elegant with bright apple sorbet, strawberry and gently caramelised nuts, enhanced by a buttery brioche character”. That sure sounds like something we would love to swirl around in a sip session. The personalised concoction didn't just capture the guests with its bubbly ambience, but also caught the attention of "judges of the 11th International Cider Challenge in London, which is touted as being “the world's premier apple cider competition”. Alexandra Blush Methode Traditionelle was named the "Supreme Champion for 2021 out of 150 entries from 18 different countries around the globe. It also won the Rose Trophy as the best cider made in a rose style." (Times Live Website)

What a wonderful end to an alcoholic love story. Just full of creativity during the lockdown, we see South Africans celebrating their true innovation during tough times, they come out with gold...or in this case, a blushing pink...
