On Valentine’s Day 2020, Matthew and Nicole traded in their “singles” titles for “Mr and Mrs”, on a sunny hot day in Durban at the Bond Shed, live on East Coast Radio.

The entire ceremony including the reception was broadcasted live on radio and live on Facebook for the whole of KZN to tune in and witness this incredible love story.

It all began a short two weeks ago when East Coast Drive; Bongani, Mags and G-Dog asked engaged couples to WhatsApp a video entry of themselves explaining why they deserve an all-expense-paid and planned wedding by East Coast Radio.

The entries were shortlisted to three couples who were interviewed on-air where the team and panel of judges got to know the couples better.

Matthew Van Wyk and Nicole Hindley were chosen as the official winners of #ECRWeddingInAWeek.

The entire team at East Coast Radio was touched by their story and believe that they deserved their happy ending.

Bongani, Mags and G-Dog rallied together with the entire team at East Coast Radio and put together a stellar wedding in just one week. From rings to wedding attire to even the bachelor and bachelorette parties, #ECRWeddingInAWeek was a great success!

“It has been such an incredible journey. Getting to hear what stories all the couples got to share with us really did make this campaign even more rewarding. Matthew and Nicole truly deserve the wedding of their dreams especially after what they have been through together and it just shows that love conquers all. A special thank you must go out to all our listeners for tuning in daily and supporting all the couples who were in the running and a major thank you to everyone who came on board to make this day a magical one. We have just witnessed a first for radio in SA and I am so proud to have been a part of it,” said SA’s best drive show host (Liberty Radio Awards 2019), Bongani Mtolo.

The couple who grew up together but fell in love years later in a taxi after Matthew snipped at Nicole’s hair so he could always keep a piece of her. Matthew and Nicole were set to get married in 2019 but due to financial constraints and after the devastation of losing a child together the couple couldn’t fulfil their dream of tying the knot.

After what was an emotional journey for the couple finally ended in the perfect tears, one’s filled with joy.

“I cannot thank East Coast Radio enough for today. To everyone who helped make this dream a reality for Nicole and I, God richly bless you! I have been emotional from the first day of learning that we were finalists and today I am just overflowing with happiness. I hope that mine and Nicole’s love will inspire other’s in KZN. Thank you KZN, Thank you ECR,” said the groom, Matthew Van Wyk.

The blushing newlyweds have already been whisked away for the first leg of their honeymoon.

East Coast Radio would like to thank all it’s partners and KZN for their on-going support and hopes that Matthew and Nicole’s love tragedy that turned into the perfect love story will inspire you to love wholeheartedly too.
