The station’s annual Connecting Africa initiative, in partnership with Tourism KwaZulu-Natal and Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal, will run from 19 July – 25 July. Representatives from the four radio stations from four different countries will tour the province for a few days before broadcasting live to their respective audiences from Moyo in Durban on 23 and 24 July.

The guest radio stations this year include; Yarona FM from Botswana, Hitz FM from Ghana, Fresh FM from Namibia and Star FM from Zimbabwe. The touring stations will get to experience some of the best tourist attractions that KZN has to offer from the Mayibuye Big 5 Game Reserve to the Mandela Capture Site Tour and Karkloof Canopy Tours. They will also visit a number of successful businesses in the region.

East Coast Radio’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu, says the station is looking forward to playing host to the radio stations, “There is an exciting itinerary lined up for our visitors to give them a true taste of the province before sharing their experiences with their listeners. Connecting Africa strategically positions KwaZulu-Natal as a premier investment, trade and tourism destination by harnessing the power of radio.”

Commenting on the collaboration with East Coast Radio, Acting CEO of Tourism KZN, Phindile Makwakwa, says, “We are putting a lot of our efforts to drive more tourists to the province from our neighbouring countries and with more flights now landing directly at King Shaka International Airport such as Air Namibia via Botswana, this campaign will connect with over 10 million potential travellers from Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Ghana. We will be able to educate them about more about our destination and our tourism offerings.”
