Winding down at The Windmills

Winding down at The Windmills

The much awaited long weekend in June could not come soon enough and I think I shared this sentiment with the greater South African population!

A time out was essential for the rejuvenation of the mind, body and soul and what better way to spend it than “Super Slothing” in the Midlands!

Just a little over an hour’s drive from Durban, you’ll find the perfect haven for a “home away from home” experience, at The Windmills.  The warm welcome we received on arrival sure made up for the chilly 11 degrees outside and as we made our through to our self-catering chalet, I could literally feel the stress of city living being exhaled with each inhale of farm style fresh air!

The nine self-catering units offer all you need to ensure your stay is comfortable one.  We were booked into the Deluxe Duiker which is one of the newly built units at The Windmills. It is decorated with country chic in mind and has the necessary amenities that you would find at home (possibly better).

The white percale linen was just out of this world and the addition of the electric blanket made it all the more difficult to get out bed!  Simple pleasures! With it being tucked away from the main hotel area, it offers a quiet private haven where from the Jacuzzi on the deck, you can watch buck and zebra grazing nearby.

My sole objective for the weekend was to “Rest and Rejuvenate”.  The beauty about a place like The Windmills is its location which allows for exactly that, but for those who prefer a mini break with an agenda, there is plenty on offer in the area.

For the avid golfer, Bosch Hoek and Gowrie Golf Course is just a “chip and a putt” away, fly fishing and hiking too. For the ladies there’s a choice of spa’s, browsing the shops at the Nottingham Junction or meandering along the Midlands Meander!  I highly recommend a coffee & scone at Blueberry Hill (trust me – it was well worth the diet cheat).

In addition to offering the ideal setting for a business conference or team build, another highlight which in my opinion is the “piece de resistance” at The Windmills, is it’s Wedding Chapel.  WOW!!  I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it – and I’ve attended a number of weddings in my lifetime.

With its floor to ceiling windows with a view overlooking the dam it creates the most spectacular setting for any couples special day!  The Windmills is fast becoming the wedding venue of choice in the midlands with its full service package that literally allows the Bride to just arrive and walk down the aisle, carefree in the knowledge that Andre and his team have it all under control!

The Four Star Boutique Hotel offers 30 en-suite rooms and with the nine self-catering units, it adds to the perfect location for an intimate wedding without guests having to worry about travelling too far.  A delicious English breakfast will ensure you’re set up for recovery after a good party or that you’re set up for the right start for a conference day.
