Who will the Breakfast Stack take to Mars?
Updated | By Samson
Five South Africans want to go far, far away from home. They're among 35 000 people around the world who've made applications over the past week to catch a space flight to Mars.
It's called the Mars One project, a private initiative led by Dutch entrepreneur, Bas Lansdorp. He wants to establish a permanent human colony on the Red Planet.
Not everyone can apply, there are a few criteria. For starters, you've got to be young and healthy obviously because the point is to procreate. Applicants need to be between the ages of 19 and 32. They must also be intelligent, creative and psychologically stable.

The local galactic travellers have to submit a video detailing why they should be given a space ticket. The project aims to send the first group of four space travellers to Mars by 2022. There's one catch though, it's a one way flight which means once you arrive there - there's no way of retuning to Earth.
Natarah asked the Breakfast Stack who and what they would take if they got the opportunity to go.
Question: Guys, if you were chosen to go to Mars forever, who would you take with you? You're also allowed to take two items from Earth.
Darren: Firstly, I'd have to take actress Milla Jovovich because she has the most onscreen sci-fi knowledge. It was a tossup between her and Stephen Hawking but my first choice was her. Seeing that one of our mandates is to procreate and form a new Martian society, I would have a Martian with her any day. I'd need take my favourite book as well Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. The other item would be my Playstation with Grand Theft Auto 5. It would probably take me around 40-years to complete the entire game with all the extras.
Milla Jovovich
Sam: I would take a shopping franchise that has a really good deli, like Woolworths. Don't ask me how it would get there, it will just happen. The second item is my hard drive. My favourite person? Scarlett "Hot"hansson (Johansson).
Scarlett Johansson
Natarah: My handsome hubby would be my travel partner. I would take a piano and a photo album with pics of all our family members and friends.
Wes: I would take my wife, definitely. I've also got three cats so would it be possible to sneak my third pet in my luggage?
George: My wife will come with me. Also, I'd make sure to pack a perpetual beer-making machine!
