Now, anyone who's ever been to the gift shop of a science museum will claim they know exactly what an intergalactic dinner looks like. But it turns out that things are actually a little bit more complex than a simple packet of freeze-dried ice cream.
NASA's Space Food Systems Laboratory has revealed a series of images that give us a deeper insight into what the diet of an astronaut actually looks like.
The carefully packed foodstuffs might not look massively appealing but as the images nearer the bottom prove, things have got way better over time.
