This is next level pedestrian transport. Battery-operated roller skates that allow you to move at a speed of around 15 km/h with absolutely no effort.

California-based RocketSkates believes its battery-operated roller skates are the next great mode of transportation.

RocketSkates CTO, Peter Treadway says the roller skates can be worn with any shoes.

The skates have a top speed of approximately 15km/h - three times the average walking pace.

According to Treadway, RocketSkates has sold just over 1000 pairs of the skates.

They retail for between $500 and $700 (R5000 - R8000) per pair.

Is this an incredible invention or simply evidence of how lazy we are becoming?
