Video: Durban dogs stay fit!
Updated | By Abi Ray
Yulinda Noortman submitted this video of her awesome little boston terrier walking on a treadmill!
Nala Moonbeam is a 5 year old boston terrier who showed signs of aggression when she was a puppy. Yulinda was watching alot of The Dog Whisperer on tv at the time, and saw how he used exercise as the first step in helping aggressive dogs. Nala was taught to run on the treadmill using treats as rewards, and as they say, the rest is history!
Nala has since trained her furkid siblings how to run on the treadmill and the Noortman family have had no more aggresion issues with any of their 'bosties'!
Yulinda says, "Whilst this is all fun and games, this method has served us well in much of the rescue work we do. It is an excellent method that can be applied to all sort of circumstances and resolving various behavioural issues. It must however also be stressed that one cannot just buy a treadmill and stick your dog onto it and hope they will run. The exercise needs to be adapted to your dogs ability and capability to prevent injury. It should be a slow introduction to start the process off in a positive way."
Yulinda wins a hamper from Beeno just for featuring her dogs in Trick Of the Week. And how wonderful that she has decided to donate it to Boston Terrier Rescue South Africa!
You can submit your short video of your pets doing something cool to [email protected] and your video could be picked next week!
