The Big Walk: Natarah's 'Dos and Don'ts'
Updated | By Staff Writer
It seems Natarah needs to invest in bigger pants for The Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk. As part of her preparation, she's admitted to unwrapping more chocolate bars than she should have. Oh dear...

Natarah made up her mind about The Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk at the beginning of the year. She will be doing the 5km leg for the first time. It may seem like a small feat for many of you, but for Natarah it's a big deal. So big, in fact, that she's been 'practicing' for 26 May 2013.
Generally, Natarah hates exercising. So much so that she'll think of any pathetic excuse to not go to the gym - like: "I need to remove the gum from under my shoe today," or, "I need to peel potatoes." So you see, putting on her tekkies for The Big Walk is a big step - in the right direction for The Breakfast Stack's news anchor.
She's been making a concerted effort to get ready for her five kilometre trek. She's been working out in the gym and stretching her calves on the beach and on the road in her neighbourhood over the past month or so.
Natarah was doing a pretty good job until two weeks ago. Sadly, she succumbed to her biggest weakness. Chocolate. She's admitted she has been unwrapping more chocolate bars than she should have. The only reason she's admitted this is because Darren caught her shopping for a bigger pair of gym tights this week.
Yes, her old ones don't fit anymore. Stressed and frustrated, Natarah made a quick dash to the mall to get a replacement and has vowed to keep away from the choccies...for now!
The scary weight gain has forced Natarah to come up with an emergency 'to do' list ahead of the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk. She's also added some helpful tips on 'what not to do.'

Dos
Follow the route. Not everyone walking is part of the Big Walk.
Always remember sunblock!
Keep hydrated.
Wear light, comfortable clothing.
Do stop if you experience any kind of muscle, joint or chest pain.
Talking while doing light exercise is good but if it leaves you feeling out of breath - give your lips a break.
Have fun!

Do nots
Don't buy brand new shoes and wear them for the first time on the day. If you really need to wear you new tekkies, use them a few times before the event.
We're all in this together but please don't hold a stranger's hand. Find your own walking buddy.
If this is your first long distance walk, don't overdo it. Take it easy and allow your body to adjust to the new activity.
Don't eat a big breakfast before going on the walk.
Do not carry your handbag or wear expensive jewellery. You don't want to draw unnecessary attention from would-be bad guys.
