For many of us, September 11, 2001 is a day we will never forget.

We can still remember the day the world stood still and watched in horror as the terror attacks unfolded on New York City and the Washington D.C metropolitan area.

A woman who worked in the Twin Towers says if it had not been for actress Gwyneth Paltrow that day, she would not be alive. The actress was making her way home from an early morning yoga class in NYC in her SUV, when she nearly crashed into an account manager, who’d been walking to work that morning.

Gwyneth’s been quoted saying; “We kind of both stopped at the same time and waited a really long time.” This led to the 24-year-old pedestrian missing her train to her office, which was actually in the now collapsed Twin Towers.

The grateful woman sent a letter to Gwyneth about 10 years later and thanked the Oscar-winning actress for saving her life.

The East Coast Breakfast team thinks back to where they were when the deadly 9/11 attacks were broadcast across the world.

Natarah says: “I remember my dad was actually returning from a trip overseas and my mum was frantic with worry after receiving a brief phone call from him telling her that he wouldn’t be home in time. He’d been scheduled to begin his journey home that day. In order to keep the passengers safe, the airline he was travelling with diverted the flight and he only arrived home two days later.

Gabriel says, “I was working at the gym and watching TV when someone said, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s the World Trade Centre!’ I actually thought it was a film, I didn’t think that was actually happening.”
