Updated | By Portia Cele
There is a heavy police presence in Umlazi, south of Durban following violent protests in the area this afternoon.
Hundreds of residents from the K and M sections of the township burned tyres and blockaded roads.
It is the second protest in as many days in the area.
Residents are demanding housing as well access to water.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says officers will remain on scene to ensure calm.
"The members negotiated with the public and they started to disperse. No injuries were reported and no damages were reported as well. The police have opened a case of public violence and there are no arrests made [as] we are still investigating this matter,"he said.
