The celebrated artist, who is a recovering alcoholic, says she first saw the advert when some of her friends sent it to her.

The print ad features several alcoholic beverages on the page with the words, "Grab a drink and show off those PJ Powers," written in bold.

PJ Powers has told Darren and Natarah that she’s been sober for nearly six years. Powers says as a recovering alcoholic, she’s been taking it one day at a time adding it’s not an easy journey.

Powers, who turns 55-years-old on 16 July, says she’s proud of how far she has come. That’s why she was appalled when she saw her name on the ad. She says, “When I first saw it, I was devastated about my name being associated with alcohol.”

She also questions why the company had not used the word ‘pajamas’ if that’s the message it had been trying to get across.

This is the first interview Powers has given following the controversy around the ad this week. Her management’s been handling queries from the media and has since approached the Advertising Standards Authority. They’re waiting for a response from the independent regulator ASA. Powers says they’ll definitely be going the legal route as well.
