PHOTOS: #MuizenbergFire
Firefighters in Cape Town have been battling to contain an inferno burning on Muizenberg Mountain. The fire's reportedly being fanned by strong winds which is making it difficult for emergency workers to put it out.
Twitter lit up overnight with messages from people witnessing the blaze while driving or from their homes. It's unclear what exactly started the fire yesterday - it's believed to have been a wildfire that is now spreading to other areas.
Residents living in estates in the nearby Tokai suburb have been evacuated. Four homes have already been damaged by the blaze. An old age home is currently being evacuated. Officials say a number of roads including Chapmans Peak Drive have been closed due to the fire.
