Parents get tattoos to match their daughter's birthmark

Jane is bowled over by the lengths that these parents went to in order to make their daughter feel accepted.

As a parent, you know the lengths you will go for your kids.

The fact of the matter is that as much as life is a gift and joy there are those that choose to steal the light and sling nasty darkness and toxicity - especially if you are unique and don't fit into the mould.

The most unsettling thought is my kids - or any kids for that matter - being bullied and belittled for who and what they are.

I have never fitted in, but somehow was never shunned for my individuality.

However, I think if most of my body was covered in a red birthmark life would have been very different and somewhat difficult for me.

Like little Honey-Rae Phillips, who was born with a wine-coloured birthmark over most of one side of her body.

In a show of solidarity, her mum and dad have had matching full leg tattoos done.

Honey-Rae’s mum, Tanya, told the Mirror about their decision: "Most people might think it’s very extreme but to us it was the natural thing to do to ensure our daughter never felt different or alone in the world."

Reading what this family did I sit here pondering if I would have gone the same route?

Yes, I love the fact that this little unit are so united and that little Honey-Rae feels less alone, but wouldn't the lesson be to teach her to be bold and proud of uniqueness and not having to fit in to be OK?

Can we protect our kids from the world, or rather hope to set them up to deal with what it throws?
