"It's Friday, Friday gotta get down..." Okay, I'm going to stop now. It's just that this week seemed like it was going to go on forever and it didn't help that I had the flu. Thankfully, today is the start of the weekend which means two days to relax, unwind and recharge those batteries.

If you're a movie-goer you'll probably be at the cinema this weekend to check out the latest offerings on the silver screen. The Breakfast Stack has a number of films on its must-see list this year.

One of them is the proudly South African movie that's going to be showcased for the first time to a global audience at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France, Blitz Patrollie. The film stars local comedy icons Kagiso Lediga and David Kau. It tells the story of two police officers at "Central" Police Station in Joburg. The characters encounter some of the city's most notorious crooks after finding a massive drug haul. They then begin a madcap adventure to ensure their names go down in crime fighting history. The film will be released locally before the festival in May. Take a look at the trailer.

One of the most artistically gifted directors, Baz Lurhmann is due to release The Great Gatsby next month. I remember studying this novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald in school and watching the movie starring Robert Redford. The 2013 version stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher. The story's set in the 1920's and focuses on the lives of the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his neighbour Nick Carraway. We also learn of the past love affair between Gatsby and the now married Daisy Buchanan before the First World War. Lurhmann's film adaptation has a modern twist like his other stunning hits including Romeo and Juliet. Rapper, Jay-Z also co-wrote the original musical score for the movie. We can't wait to check it out!
