Moment of madness gets tinted
Updated | By Jason
You know that feeling when you drop a glass at home and you sit for a few seconds annoyed with yourself because you could have done something? Now magnify that by like a million. That’s how I feel everytime someone decides to break my car window to steal R5 and my cds. In 10 years I, or someone I know has had more windows broken than I can care to imagine.
I finally took the leap and decided to give my car Lana – A Honda Civic some smash and grab treatment. Yes and some tinting. Hear me out though. MY car is like this dark shiny colour and tinting it would make it stand out. Yes a little show offish but still. I like it.
I went on down to PG Autoglass to ask their advice – I suppose I could have gone to my mate Peter’s house, he reckons some glue, spray paint, some black bags and three hours would do the trick… Err, no thanks Peter but thanks. Here is the thing. If I drive up to a stop street – smash and grab isnt going to stop an attack from happening – but it may deter someone from choosing my car to smash into – and I like the odds of being ignored over being picked. Also – should someone actually smash my window – I am not going to be picking bits of my Honda’s window out my throat for weeks. Can you imagine what glass tastes like? No , neither can I. I am a martial artist who loves the idea of self preservation, and prevention being better than finding a cure. One of the other benefits of tinting a car – is that I can save money. Yes, that stuff I have very little of, money. It reduces my car’s air-conditioning load, improving fuel efficiency – well that’s what the guy in the white suit at the fitting place at PG said to me anyway. I kind of wanted to have a test – you know , throw a rock at the window of my car to see how it works , but then realized I would then need to replace that too. No thanks. Oh yeah and it also keeps out a massive amount of ultraviolet light! My fitting the 35 % tint actually keeps out 99 percent of unltraviolet light – no more “sunscreen on my arm because I look like I can only tan one side of my body” look anymore. Winning. That also by the way leads me to another point – It looks hot. No not my tanned arm, but tinting. So there are lots of benefits.
My advice? Advice is free – go and have a look at a shop that sells tinting and smash and grab, let them show you their stuff and make up your mind based on what you feel is right for you.
Thanks PG Autoglass Umhlanga ( 0860 03 03 03) for being my guinea pig and letting me play around at your place. I’m hoping that I never have to go back there to replace the window because you know – once is plenty enough!
Check out Lana’s new look!
