Moment of Madness

Moment of Madness

Well - The Durban Colourfest actually..

Jason took part in the first Durban Colourfest party at Gateway's Wavehouse this past weekend...

Of course he has to tell all about it *Deep sigh*

Here is his review:

Will the coloured powder come off? That’s all I wanted to know.

Not that important now that I look back on the madness that was the Durban Colourfest.

Held at Gateway I have no idea how the 6000 people managed to fit in – but they did, and there was space to still walk around. Or run. From friends with bags of coloured powder destined to find a home in your shirt, armpits, ears and hair….

But I digress.. The Durban Colourfest was in opinion successful for a number of reasons. The crowd was expecting something different – and they got it. In. every. colour. possible.  The DJ line up was insane –  This country has some of the most talented performers in the world – and the line up at Colourfest proved it – from original beats to some of the classics – everyone was dancing… and dancing…and throwing powder.

At 3pm the first throw took place. That’s when everyone grabs some powder and throws it into the air at the same time… Wow. I haven’t felt that dusty and colourful since. Never.

To me the Colourfest showed that Durban is great at holding established festivals – but you knew that already. It also showed me that DJs need to hold more multi DJ events – I think it’s a fantastic way to showcase talent and get everyone out and about!

The organisers behind the event did an exceptional job at making sure everything was covered ( in dust) from the beverages, to the security, to the abundance of powder. If you haven’t got it yet, there was a lot of powder. In fact, the next day – I asked people how to get said powder out of one’s armpits. My advice – Don’t use a scrubbing brush – Nail remover on a tissue works wonders.

I must have left at around the same time the wolves start howling ( midnight) and the party was still going strong. Well I think it was.

A big round of dusty applause from me to the organisers on a very successful event – I am wearing a full suit and face mask to the next one. Which I hope happens soon!
