This might change your life

Do you struggle to fall asleep? Did you know poor sleep puts you at risk of serious medical conditions and also shortens your life expectancy? The Drive Team might just be able to change this.

According to research, one in three people suffers from poor sleep, and is at risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

The culprits: stress, computers and late night work, to name a few.

Dr Weil, founder of the Arizona Centre for Intergrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, claims a simple breathing exercise could be the answer.

The method is based on an ancient Indian practice called pranayama and is used widely in yoga and pilates.

Dr Weil calls it the '4-7-8' method.

Dr Weil says, "You breathe in through your nose quietly and blow air out forcefully through your mouth making a whoosh sound. It takes all of about 30 seconds so there is no excuse for not doing it.'

Dr Weil says it produces a pleasant altered state of consciousness, and that the more you practice, the better you'll get.

You need to practice at least twice a day, and Dr Weil claims within six weeks, you'll notice significant changes.

Start practicing ‘4-7-8’ method with these steps:

1. Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound.

2. Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.

3. Hold your breath for a count of seven.

4. Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound to a count of eight.

5. This is one breath. Now inhale again and repeat the cycle three more times for a total of four breaths.

The Drive Team is going to give this a try for the next two weeks and report back.

We'd like you to do the same.

Let's make a date: On the 18th and 25th of May we'll compare notes. Yes?
