Award-winning hip-hop star, Khuli Chana, who was shot and wounded allegedly by police in a case of mistaken identity, says he is exploring his legal options.

The incident took place in the early hours of this morning in the Midrand area in Gauteng.

The rapper was reportedly thought to be a kidnapper.

Jane Linley-Thomas spoke to Chana's manager, Refiloe Ramogase, for his account of what happened.

According to Ramogase, the singer was going to meet a DJ at a garage on New Road for a gig in Pretoria.

The DJ was running late for the meeting and they then organised to meet in Pretoria.

As Chana was leaving the garage, he drove around an unmarked VW combi facing the opposite direction.

Shots were allegedly fired at his car while he was driving around it.

He sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The police fired six shots at the vehicle in which Chana was travelling, according to his manager.

Ramogase told Jane that the shots were intended to "maim or kill" the occupant of the vehicle.

The musician's arm was injured after a bullet was lodged in a finger on his right hand.

One bullet also went through the back seat and broke into shrapnel and injured his back.

Chana has been discharged from hospital and is resting in an undisclosed location.

The injured rap star is very upset, shaken and traumatised.

Ramogase has revealed that they have discussed the matter with their lawyers.

He maintains that they will not take this lying down.
