Gabriel's bad road-tripping experience

Gabriel's bad road-tripping experience

Have you road-tripped with someone who irritated the hell out of you, and who you will never road trip with again? Well Gabriel has and shares two of his worst road trip experiences with us.

'Four years ago I did a road trip from Cape Town to Durban and back again.

Due to hours on the road and no human contact, I picked up a female hitch-hiker in Graaf Reinet, who claimed she was going to Steynsburg about 200km up the road.

Within ten minutes, she was helping herself to my padkos and refreshments and even asked me for a cigarette.

Since it was my fault for stopping, I kept quite. However, the closer we got to Steynsburg, the more she repeated that she has never been to Durban.

Moral of the story: Do not pick hitchhikers...they are adults who want to be adopted.

Here is another story I couldn't resist sharing.

A few weeks ago, I did a road trip from Durban to Jhb to Machadodorp to Drakensberg finishing off in Durban.

As a seasoned road traveller, it is absolutely essential to make sure you have all your snacks and essentials with you, so stopping at a one stop is not just a bathroom break.

I asked my travelling companion if she needed anything, something to drink or eat when I stopped for a bathroom break and she said: "No thanks I'll be fine."

So we continued on the road. While traveling, the conversations we had were great, until she helped herself to my chilli beef biltong sticks.

No no no, that's why I asked if everything was in order with her padkos.

Moral of the story: Biltong sticks can start World War Three.'
