We asked you to share your ideas on how to solve the truck problem on Field's Hill.

Take a look at the list that The Breakfast Stack has compiled from your suggestions. These will now be taken to the Transport MEC.

Let us know if we've missed anything that you think needs to be included.

1. Ban all heavy duty trucks from using Field’s Hill - this is the most popular opinion and also that of many experts who say Field’s Hill is just too dangerous for most heavy duty trucks.

2. Install cameras and GPS systems in all trucks so that their movements and speed can be monitored.

3. Improve the training of truck drivers and re-test them every 2 years as is the norm in many European countries.

4. Make sure all vehicles are roadworthy. A lot has been said about rogue transport companies and those who are refusing to invest in either their fleet or their staff.

5. Improve our rail system so that more cargo can be transported on cargo trains.

6. Ensure more effective policing and compliance with the law.

7. Install a height restriction bridge or another type of physical barrier that makes it impossible for the trucks to go down Field’s Hill.

8. Build a toll station before the off ramps to the alternative M13 routes, so that all trucks are checked for road-worthiness and legal compliance before they get to any dangerous hot spots.

9. All heavy vehicles should be branded with at least the company name, a large number (eg D32) and contact details of the company's freight manager.  This branding should be on BOTH sides of the cab, as well as on the back of the vehicle. This will allow motorists to be effective monitors,  and if necessary also name and shame, or report and commend good driving behaviour and compliance and allow the Road Traffic Authorities to act quickly when non-compliance is reported by proactive motorists.

10. Toll Concessions for trucking companies.

Have we covered everything? If not, let's keep the ideas flowing: share any other suggestions that you might have with us in the comments' section below.
