Durban sisters perform the ‘Cup Song’

Do you remember the craze that swept the Internet when the film “Pitch Perfect” was released in 2012? The ‘Cup Song’ fascinated people around the world. Meet two local girls who’ve also perfected that hit…

I don’t know about you but when it comes to playing the drums or jump rope, I’m pretty useless.

Don’t get me wrong, these are things I really want to do but seriously, my hemispheric coordination (a situation where both halves of the brain are active) is off.

I get so jealous when I see drummers producing insane beats. I would love to play but sadly can’t. I was equally jealous when I came across a video of two Overport sisters, Vishvadhini (11) and Suhasthini Pillay (9) performing the ‘Cup Song’ made popular by the musical comedy “Pitch Perfect.”

The talented duo, from SRS Primary School, learnt the song during the holidays after watching the movie, starring Anna Kendrick. They practiced over and over again until they got it right.

Check out Vishvadhini and Suhasthini’s perfectly coordinated hand movements below. I think Darren could learn a thing or two from these singers!

The girls’ other interests include learning the classical Indian dance form, Bharata Natyam. According to their mum Joelene, they enjoy sketching, colouring & painting as well.

She says, “Cooking and baking is also something they really enjoy and gain their source of inspiration from the MasterChef TV series, the Food Network channel and their mum of course.”

As far as their passion for music is concerned, their dad is their hero. Sivanathan is a leading South Indian carnatic musician who plays the mridangam.
