Darren supports decriminalization of rhino horn
Updated | By tanstan fourie
As a species we breed and harvest many other species for our benefit. Cows, sheep, goats, pigs and chickens.
You might say; "Yes but that's for food - it's normal, Rhino horn is used for some silly old traditional superstitious and ritualistic reasons."
Okay what do you think the whole sale slaughter (for tradition and ritual) of the turkey every Thanks Giving is? Or the Christmas ham?
Asking Asians to cease and desist with their age old traditions and trade of animal parts from tiger bones to rhino horn, from eye of newt and toe of frog is like asking a Catholic to stop with Communion or the Muslim to stop Ramadan and Hindoes to stop Dewali. Keeping in mind that the Far East with their traditions and belief systems pre-date Christianity and Islam by thousands of years. It's entrenched and frankly we don't have the moral right to ask them to change.
So let's give them their Rhino horn (which is 20x more valuable than gold) and manage the product so no animals are cruelly harmed unnecessarily. In fact, if we flood the market then the desire for it just might dry up.
Are you #for or #against decriminalization of rhino horn sales?
