Darren Maule a 'Die Hard' feminist?
Updated | By Darren Maule

I have been very privileged of late to have the opportunity to listen to some truly inspirational South African leading women speak… The likes of East Coast Radio’s MD Trish Taylor, ‘Agang’ leader Mamphela Rampele and City Press editor Ferial Haffajee.
So when I read that Bruce Willis had said that women should rule the world, something emphatic inside me stirred. This is an Action Man, a Hollywood hard man - Mr Bruce Willis!
As a father of a girl I know how biased one can be towards the superiority of girls and he has 4 daughters of his own but here is The Man - a manly man-man-man saying unashamedly that WOMEN should rule the world.
This led me to really thinking about it and yes, it is about time! Men have had - depending on who you believe (6500 or 75 000) years – more than enough opportunity to rule and lead. For the entire length of recorded history, they have not done an admirable job at all.
So, isn't it time (I say it really, really is) for women to rule the world?
I guess most people would say I'm biased because as a single father; I know I have a young, beautiful, functionally socialised daughter who - when I watch her playing in the park - she is generous, caring, sharing, giving, playful, kind and wonderful with all the other kids in the park - or at school, with friends, with family etc.
However boys - are not! Not just the boys in my immediate vicinity or extended family. Go and watch boys in parks or at school or family functions. They are selfish, hurtful, total bullies and only really think about themselves. They break things, push people and generally behave like slightly smaller, slightly less hairy bulls in the proverbial china shop.
When I take my mind back to when I was at school, at about primary school level when I was around 11 years old, just about every single girl did her homework, listened to the teacher, applied herself, was mindful of everybody else in the class and, whilst sitting there observing all of this, I had an epiphany...Hang on just a second - Chicks Rock!
Why then are there as a rule only male presidents? Why are there only male leaders? Why is it a man's world when I am looking around me at the women and from where I am sitting - they have it all! They've got the feeling, the empathy, the compassion, the intelligence, the knowledge as well as the emotional intelligence which men seemingly don't have. I had this epiphany when I was 11!
Now at the slightly less tender age of… well, now that I am a little bit older it's hitting me again: it is time for women to take over.
So, men - let's do the manly thing. Step aside and give the women an opportunity. And to all the sexist pigs out there who, we know, are going to make statements such as;
"I am not going to leave a little red button in the hands of a woman who is having a little red incident of her own in her life."
To those very men I say; "you ignoramus!" We are now living in the 21st century - a technologically and medically advanced age. For example: there are painkillers for women. There are mood enhancers. They have the option of Hormone Replacement Therapy. So your argument, Gentlemen, is moot!
Some of you will even go on to argue that how could women be leaders when they can't even drive properly? Well, I have an answer to that too. Women, when they are leaders, will not need to drive themselves around. Do you see our future female leaders driving? No! They, like their male counterparts will have chauffeurs, blue light brigades and police escorts.
So any argument which you wish to throw at me - a sensible one please - about why you believe women should not rule the world, I can - and will - shoot it down.
Answer me this...what is in the way of letting women rule the world? Here is the answer....nothing more than the fragile male ego.
Gentlemen; you with your fragile and fairly frail egos, why don't you do the World, no - the Universe, a favour and step aside and give women a chance.
