Every year on the first of April we all have our guards up.
We expect to be pranked around every corner and during every phone call and conversation.
Newspaper headlines are scrutinised and anything extraordinary is written off as an April Fools' gag.
Even something as serious as a new road sign is looked at twice, just in case there is a trick up its pole.
Why is it then that so many of us fall for it every single year?
