Back to the Drive-in for the Drive Team!
Updated | By Staff Writer
In celebration of 20 Years of Freedom this month, we take you on a little joyride into the past! Hop on, let's go!
The Drive team has been reminiscing about hobbies and pastimes they used to enjoy roughly 20 years ago, or within the past 20 years, that have kind of faded away.
Below you'll find a list of five.
We're looking for more, so please feel free to comment!
1. Skateboarding/Rollerblading: Do you remember using terms like 'halfpipe,' 'quarterpipe' and 'aerial' to name a few? You know, when we actually used to go outside and play with real people?
2. Drive-in: Now this is a classic! I wonder how many wedding proposals or even secret liaisons took place at the drive-in! for some reason, Leon Schuster always springs to mind when we think of this one.
Speaking of which, this is the first movie Rory remembers seeing at the drive-in, The Gods Must Be Crazy II. How's that for a classic?
3. Board Games: Admittedly, some of us do still engage in this past time, let's be honest, not nearly as much as we used to. Oh, the days! Colonel Mustard in the Kitchen with a Candlestick. Now we have LAN! Huh? What? Exactly.
4. Ice-skating rinks: There are still a few scattered around here and there, but where they used to often be an option for a first date, this is no longer the case. Nowadays we'd rather drown ourselves in cinema so there is less conversation, and as such, less awkwardness.
5. The Yo-Yo: Remember the tricks! Around the World, and um, no, I'm sorry, that is the only one I can remember. What I DO remember is being whacked in teeth a few times when losing control of the little thing on a string.
What were YOUR favourite hobbies or pastimes that have faded with time? Drop us a comment below, and Damon will read them on-air.
