Back to school advice

There’s one thing that some parents always get wrong on the first day back at school. This occurrence happens in almost every “First Day back at school’  I fully understand that most parents do this out of love, however they forget that they were once at school…and their parents got it wrong too. 

When I was in Grade 4, I made an agreement with my mother that, she was not going to force me to do this anymore. What my mom didn’t understand is that, I was a social outcast when I did this. It can be so bad that you cannot even play with other kids. Worse, you cannot even walk like other kids do.  You become isolated and in pain. This term of isolation like a prisoner on death row can last for three or more days. 

I heavily debated my facts to my mother, like I was at a UN World Summit. Luckily for me, she understood and supported my thinking. There was a great benefit for her as well. So great that it saved her money. 

Parents! As a kid, there’s nothing worse like wearing new school shoes on the first day. It feels like you are wearing vice grips on your feet. How are you supposed to play soccer with your buddies during break? These vice grips do not bend! They don’t conform to the shape and stride of your feet. That’s no way to start preparing for a football career with Arsenal or Pirates or Barcelona, wearing crowbars.  

So moms and dads, rather buy new school shoes at any other time of the year. They are cheaper, so you save money. First Day Back is all about a big jol, reuniting with friends, trading sandwiches and non-stop games of silly-buggers. So no new school shoes, they’ll slow your child  down when playing “cops and robbers”.  It’s not cool being a cop! It’s always the slow kids that are cops and the fun kids always gets to be a robber.
