A special favour for a special woman

Ben and Colleen wrote into the Big Favour:

"We have a dear friend, her name is Christine, and she has cancer.

She lives alone with her child, and friend, Annie, her cat in a small complex in Kloof. She is unable to move about freely as she is crippled and can't spend lengthy periods standing.

"She spends most of every day reading and doing her daily routine in her home, but finds having to stand and prepare meals for herself a painful experience, hence she sometimes finds herself nibbling a biscuit for supper.

Her enthusiasm for life pulls her through every day, and never missing a Sharks game on TV. Christine is in constant discomfort due to her illness and goes off and does her therapy sessions most times on her own without asking a friend to accompany her.

"She was attacked by an intruder who smashed her lounge window whilst she was sitting there and, thank the Lord, was unharmed but lost quite a bit in the process. Her children are scattered around the world based in various countries, and are none the wiser as to her daily situation, although she does speak to them on a regular basis - but don't think she divulges much.

Colleen and l have taken her under our wing and give her as much support as we can, calling on her, helping her by hanging pictures and plates on her walls, adjusting wash lines and generally making her feel wanted and more part of daily society. She has a "bucket list" and this is where the Big Favour comes in.

"Besides wanting to go up the Sky Car at the soccer stadium and being pampered at Brookdale, the top of her list is meeting her most favourite Sharks player, Jannie du Plessis for a cup of tea."
