WATCH - Permit fishing action
The permit is a fish species that reminds me a lot of the pompano we catch here in KwaZulu-Natal. The permit grows bigger than the pompano and can weigh up to around 36kg.
Sea lice is the preferred bait for pompano here on the KZN coast.
The permit also likes to feed on crustaceans and today we join Captain Blair Wiggins in pursuit of this species.
Wiggins is using crab as bait off the coast of Florida in the USA.
Take note of the circle hook - It is designed to cause the least possible damage to the fish.
