Mercedes crash

Hamilton was on pole at the Spanish Grand Prix and was desperate to stop his teammate's unbeaten record this season - but the events that unfolded ended both drivers involvement in what ended up being an historic day in Barcelona.

Hamilton and Rosberg crashed out in what could have been a terrible accident - luckily both drivers escaped relatively unscathed. After coming out the blocks Rosberg edged ahead of Hamilton. The British driver then aggressively tried to get around Rosberg after the third corner, but the German closed his teammate's gap on the outside which saw Hamilton's car drift onto the grass.

Hamilton spun out and clipped Rosberg's car which sent both drivers and their cars off the track. Check out the video here:

Mercedes indicated that an inquest would be made into the incident. Meanwhile F1 legend Niki Lauda believed that Hamilton was in the wrong, accusing the British driver of being too aggressive in his overtaking manouevre.

While the crash took centre stage, the rest of the race continued in what became a memorable day for 18-year-old Max Verstappen. The Belgian driver ended up winning the race to become the youngster driver to ever win a Formula One event.
